I didn't mean to say that they were mutally exculsive, just that in the event that you are doing a multiple variable regression you may as well use a F-Stat since it gives better information (i.e. can include R^2 and other shit).
Classes is the wrong word. A couple courses as an undergrad - yeah - whats your point - you really haven't asserted any sort of superior knowledge because i am a mere undergrad!</font></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>
The F-stat doesn't give BETTER information, rather different information. What does the F-stat tell us? Merely that all of the coefficients on the RHS are not COLLECTIVELY statistically indistinguishable from zero.
In other words: jack shit is what the F-stat tells us.
It really doesn't matter what your background is, but I can assure you that if any of my PhD students had suggested using an F-test RATHER than a t-test, or that it was better for a multiple regression model, they would have not successfully completed my course NOR gotten a degree from the program I was on the faculty at.

my bad. I just looked at some of my regression outputs and realized that you are right.
My bad! Ooops!

So, you are an Arthur Andersen accountant?
Just kidding. Of course, you could have saved yourself some time and just looked at my nic and realized I was right...
sorry, I couldn't resist that bit of self-fellating...

Maybe you could have looked at my nic and realized i was right?
My econometrics course is all about F-stats right now and we haven't even mentioned t's in so long - i think i just assumed that f was a replacement for t without even considering the point that you made abundantly clear.
also - YT - do you have even Half a clue about what we are talking about? That would seem like prof. studnet conversation, and i got instructed as to reconsider the significance of the t-stat.
Dr. Bob - you get 5 stars for schooling my ass!

I never claimed to. Its not my field.
Based on what I know of the both of you and reading this thread, this much was obvious:

Sample size n should be greater than or equal to 30, unless the original data is normally distributed, in which case the CLT applies even if n is less than 30.

Fucking Dick!
I prefer the left hand variable so I can work the mouse with my right hand.
Trust me, I've done extensive research in this area.

The answer... the question is moot.
Cards won the World Series that year. Scoreboard.
